Everyone is spellbound by The Apprectice, where bear-like Alan Sugar puts some millionaire wannabes through their paces in order to select one fortunate finalist as his apprentice.

Recently, the show focused on the candidates’ interview skills.  A BBC article analysed Five job interview bear traps, the most painful any person can stumble into.

  1. Being caught in a lie – when prospective employees are caught out at having embellisehd their achievements in order to get the job.
  2. Getting riled – when interviewers start with a deliberate attempt to unsettle you by causing you to lose your temper.
  3. Being bowled by a googly – when the potential employer tries to induce confusion, bewilderment and embarrassment.
  4. Becalmed in doldrums – when a candidate is required to make substantial comment on a very basic or broad topic.
  5. Suffering a presentation difficulty – when there is a failure by the candidate to appreciate the importance of the non-verbal aspects of their interview.
